The core function of the Research & Publication Unit is to prepare Indexes and Catalogues of the historical records available in this Directorate. Transcriber of Records transliterates the Modi - Marathi documents into Devanagari Marathi and Assistant Archivist Grade II prepares summaries of the transliterated documents.

Apart from this Transliteration of some of the Portuguese records is also carried out on a regular basis by the Transcriber of Records. Archives Week Exhibitions are also held in June every year. Annual Local history seminars are organized for academicians and research scholars to encourage researchers to carry out more research on Goa. The section is headed by an Archivist (Publication).
